In their insatiable appetite to go for the last grab they do not hesitate to trample upon other people’s rights and bulldoze through one and all in order to reach their goal. Now, in their last gasp in power, the Nationalists want to make sure that there will be nothing left for others. We have witnessed several times this attitude in the past, and we will continue to experience their lust even up to the last minute - or shall we say “during extra time” as I will show.Just after coming out of the Presidential Palace where he had advised the President to dissolve parliament, Dr Gonzi appeared in front of the cameras to pledge to the Maltese public that all transfers and promotions within the public sector were to be halted with immediate effect. The following day, the powers that be at Enemalta promoted three engineers, known for their political allegiance, to the post of Assistant Manager. Yes, barely twenty-four hours after the solemn declaration by the Prime Minister. So much for par idejn sodi! The said promotions, described by inside sources at Enemalta as needless and senseless have frustrated and angered a number of hard-working and talented engineers in this enterprise. It is no wonder that during the past few years Enemalta has lost a number of very talented and experienced engineers. It is equally not surprising that most of the recruited engineers resign after only a few months of employment with the Corporation. I am reliably informed that this latest shameless act has been orchestrated by an acolyte within the Department of Human Resources at Enemalta. But I have reason to believe that this same act bears unmistakably the arrogant hallmark of acting minister Austin Gatt who loses no opportunity to demonstrate to one and all as to who runs the show and who calls the shots within the Government hierarchy. |
